Polls

Poll discussions let you gather opinions from the community through voting.

When to use it

  • Community decisions ("Should we allow X?")
  • Preferences ("Which logo do you prefer?")
  • Fun surveys ("What's your favorite...?")
  • Cross-referencing opinions against demographics or experience levels

Creating a poll

  1. Write a title that frames the question
  2. Add your poll options (at least 2)
  3. Configure settings:
    • Allow multiple votes — voters can select more than one option
    • Allow vote changes — voters can change their mind after voting
    • Secret ballot — individual votes are not visible, only totals
    • Group poll — adds a secondary dimension (see below)
    • Close date — automatically stops voting at a specific date and time

Group polls (secondary dimension)

Group polls add a second question that voters answer before casting their vote. This lets you break down results by demographic, experience level, or any other grouping.

For example, a poll asking "Which framework do you prefer?" could add a group question: "What is your experience level?" with groups "Beginner" and "Expert". Voters pick their group first, then vote on the main question. Results can then be viewed as an overall total or broken down by group — showing whether beginners and experts have different preferences.

To enable this, toggle Group poll when creating a poll, then fill in:

  • Group question — the secondary question voters answer (e.g. "What is your experience level?")
  • Group A and Group B — the two groups voters can identify with (e.g. "Beginner" and "Expert")

Viewing results

Poll results are shown as a bar chart. The total vote count and percentage for each option are displayed. Results update in real time as new votes come in.

For group polls, results can be toggled between the overall view and a per-group breakdown, so you can see how each group voted differently.
